Alani Skin MD Rf microneedling medical procedure

RF Microneedling (Potenza, Sylfirm, & Scarlet)

RF Microneedling combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy delivered through insulated needles directly into the dermis — stimulating deeper collagen production and skin tightening than needles alone can achieve. It’s especially effective for laxity, enlarged pores, acne scars, and early jowling, with results that continue improving for up to 6 months.

RF Microneedling FAQs: Skin Tightening Questions

Everything you need to know before your first appointment — or your next one.

What is RF Microneedling and how is it different from regular microneedling?
RF Microneedling combines traditional microneedling with radiofrequency energy for a significantly more powerful result. While standard microneedling creates microchannels to stimulate collagen, RF Microneedling simultaneously delivers heat energy deep into the dermal layers through those same channels, triggering a more intense collagen and elastin response that addresses both skin texture and skin laxity. It’s one of the most effective non-surgical skin tightening treatments available in Phoenix and Scottsdale.
RF Microneedling at Alani Skin MD effectively addresses fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, enlarged pores, stretch marks, and skin laxity on the face, neck, and décolleté. The radiofrequency component makes it particularly effective for patients dealing with skin looseness or sagging that standard microneedling alone can’t fully address.
Alani recommends 3–6 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart for optimal results. As with standard microneedling, results build progressively as collagen remodels over weeks following each session — with most patients seeing their best improvement several weeks after completing their full treatment series.
Expect redness and some swelling for 24–48 hours post-treatment, similar to a moderate sunburn. After the initial 6–8 hours, you can gently cleanse with a mild cleanser and apply a hydrating moisturizer. Avoid blood thinners, direct sun exposure, and tanning beds for at least one week before your appointment — and prioritize SPF after treatment, especially in the Arizona climate.
Both treat similar concerns — texture, tone, laxity, and scarring — but through different mechanisms. Laser resurfacing uses light energy and typically involves more downtime and greater sensitivity risk for darker skin tones. RF Microneedling uses heat energy delivered through needles, making it safe for a broader range of skin tones with generally less social downtime. Your Alani provider can help determine which approach is better suited to your skin type and goals during your consultation.
