ProFractional Laser

ProFractional Laser creates thousands of precise micro-channels deep in the skin to trigger powerful collagen remodeling — effectively treating acne scars, fine lines, and uneven texture. Because only a fraction of the skin is treated at a time, surrounding tissue stays intact and recovery is faster than full-ablative resurfacing.

ProFractional Laser FAQs: Acne Scar Treatment Questions

Everything you need to know before your first appointment — or your next one.

What is ProFractional Laser and how does it work?
1ProFractional is a targeted fractional laser resurfacing treatment that creates precise, controlled micro-channels deep into the skin to stimulate collagen production and accelerate skin renewal. Unlike treatments that resurface the entire skin surface, ProFractional treats a fraction of the skin at a time — leaving surrounding tissue intact to speed healing while still delivering significant improvement in fine lines, acne scars, and skin texture. Available at Alani Skin MD’s Scottsdale location, it treats the face, neck, and décolleté.
ProFractional is particularly effective for acne scars, surgical scars, fine lines, wrinkles, and rough or uneven skin texture — making it one of the most targeted resurfacing options for patients in the Phoenix and Scottsdale area dealing with scarring or skin damage that hasn’t responded to lighter treatments like microneedling or chemical peels. The depth of treatment is customizable, allowing your Alani provider to tailor the intensity to your specific concerns and goals.
All three are resurfacing lasers, but they work differently. CO2 is a fully ablative laser with more aggressive surface removal and the most downtime. Halo combines ablative and non-ablative wavelengths for comprehensive resurfacing with moderate downtime. ProFractional uses a fractional ablative approach that targets specific areas of concern with customizable depth and density — making it well-suited for patients who need targeted correction of scars or texture in specific zones rather than full-face resurfacing.
Most patients complete 1–3 treatments initially, with an optional annual maintenance session. Downtime is customizable based on treatment intensity — lighter passes result in 2–4 days of redness and healing, while more aggressive settings may require 5–7 days. Results continue to build over several weeks as new collagen remodels the treated areas.
Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 1–2 weeks before your appointment, and discontinue blood thinners and retinoids one week prior as directed by your Alani provider. After treatment, use only a mild cleanser and avoid harsh skincare products for at least a week. Apply broad-spectrum SPF consistently for at least 6 weeks post-treatment.
