Alani Skin MD facial Lasers. BBl resurfacing laser

BBL & BBL Hero Laser

BBL is an advanced light therapy that clears pigmentation, redness, and sun damage — with clinical research showing it can influence gene expression, helping skin behave like younger skin over time. Most clients see visible improvement after one session, with optimal results from 2–3 treatments per year.

BBL Hero delivers the same benefits at higher power and speed, making large-area and full-body treatments practical — same precision, same minimal downtime, more skin covered per session.

BBL BroadBand Light FAQs

Everything you need to know before your first appointment — or your next one.

What is BBL Laser and what does it treat?
BBL (BroadBand Light) is a light-based treatment that targets sun damage, pigmentation, redness, and visible signs of aging to restore a brighter, more even complexion with minimal downtime. It uses broad-spectrum light energy to break down unwanted pigment and stimulate collagen production — improving skin tone and clarity without breaking the skin’s surface.
Both use the same BroadBand Light technology, but BBL HERO is a more powerful, next-generation version that delivers treatment faster and with greater energy output. Standard BBL is an excellent option for patients with mild to moderate pigmentation, sun damage, and redness who want effective results with minimal downtime and a more accessible entry point. BBL HERO is the better fit for patients with more extensive sun damage or those looking to treat larger body areas. Your Alani provider can help determine which is right for you during your consultation.
BBL is a form of IPL — BroadBand Light is Sciton’s proprietary IPL platform, widely regarded as one of the most advanced and precise light-based systems available. While the underlying technology is similar, BBL delivers more consistent, controlled energy than older IPL devices, resulting in more predictable and effective outcomes. At Alani Skin MD, the BBL platform is used for both the standard BBL and BBL HERO treatments.
Most patients complete 1–3 initial treatments, with an optional annual maintenance session to prevent new sun damage from accumulating — particularly important for patients in the Phoenix and Mesa area with year-round sun exposure. Pigmented spots typically darken briefly after treatment before naturally flaking off within 1–2 weeks, revealing clearer, more even skin underneath.
Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 1–2 weeks before your appointment. Discontinue blood thinners and retinoids one week prior as directed. After treatment, use a mild cleanser, avoid harsh skincare products for at least a week, and apply broad-spectrum SPF consistently for at least 6 weeks. Consistent sun protection is essential after any light-based treatment — and especially critical for patients living in the Arizona sun year-round.
